Hi-Quality Group, a highly reputable privately owned Australian family company, has an excellent opportunity for an experienced, motivated and disciplined Heavy Haulage Float Manager/Allocator to join our high performing team. 

Our company specialises in quarry operations, resource recycling, landfills, and transport and logistics with operations across NSW and in Victoria. We have been established for over 50 years and are currently going through a phase of expansion.

The manager must possess the necessary skills and ability to improve the utilisation and profitability of the float business.

Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Transport Manager and working closely with operations managers, site managers and external clients you will be utilising your expansive leadership skills and operational knowledge to oversee all areas of our Heavy Haulage department including allocations, driver recruitment, truck utilisation and increasing our customer base for Heavy Haulage.

The Heavy Haulage Manager's key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development and management of the Heavy Haulage business

  • Run all low loader operations from allocating through to external sales

  • Obtain all necessary oversize/over-mass permits

  • Leadership, training and mentoring of staff members

  • Maximise fleet utilisation

  • Coordinate repairs and maintenance with the maintenance manager

  • Assist with transport administration functions

  • Ensuring safe work practices in all aspects of the business and manage and lead safety to achieve a goal of zero incidents

  • Investigate report and manage vehicle incidents/accidents, property damage and personal injury within the workplace

  • Contribute to monthly and weekly reporting requirements

  • Ensure compliance with National Heavy Vehicle and Driver Fatigue legislation in scheduling work and managing the transport function

  • Manage the implementation of new clients and increased business with existing clients to ensure a smooth transition within operations and customer service

  • Develop customer relationships with key stakeholders and provide prompt responses to customer issues

To be considered for this role you will require:

  • Strong Commitment and understanding of Transport legislation and Occupational Health and Safety regulations

  • A minimum of 5 years heavy haulage experience

  • Detailed knowledge of NHVR legislation, configurations, weights and permits

  • Working knowledge of the NSW transport rules and regulations

  • Experience in staff management and sub-contractor engagement

  • Be both internally and externally customer focused

  • Excellent communication, written and interpersonal skills

  • An ability to work unsupervised, demonstrate problem solving abilities and show high levels of initiative are essential attributes to be considered for this role

  • Results orientated

  • MC license with float experience an advantage
